Some of the best advice I’ve ever received was this:
“Don’t sweat the small stuff…and it’s all small stuff.”
When I started my externship after I finished my Medical Assistant program 11 years ago, I was mentored by a woman named Ms. Norma.
Now Norma was smart. She was encouraging. She got her work done, knew her patients, was phenomenal with the physicians, and was a wonderful teacher. I’m not sure how long she had been a Medical Assistant before I met her but one thing about this woman, was she did not sweat the small stuff. I never saw her make a mistake but I made plenty. Any time that I did, she would say to me in her New England accent, “No worries. Don’t sweat the small stuff and honey it’s all small stuff.”
I have carried that advisement through the years in multiple areas. Not only has it helped me in my career but also in my marriage, training my children, in my education, and of course writing. When I make a mistake or fall short, I have learned not to sweat the small stuff cause really, it’s all small stuff!
We cannot make every issue, a major issue. Everything does not have to be a level 10 crisis! Ever get so worked up and worried that give yourself anxiety, make yourself sick, or end up depressed because you messed up? Stop it! We cannot dwell on the past or when we made a bad choice because there is simply no changing it. We should not magnify the areas where we are weak but we can work hard and allow God to work in us, to improve them. We are to understand that no one is perfect therefore we should expect ourselves to have some flaws. Ain’t nobody perfect but Jesus but remember, He is perfecting that which concerns you.😁
We have got to grow to a point of being unbothered by every thing, every person, every rumor, every lie, every mistake, every mishap, and every shortcoming. Dwelling on these things robs us of the joy we are given each day in Christ. Rather than complaining about the small stuff, rejoice about your blessings! Rejoice because you are breathing! Rejoice because each day is filled with new grace and mercies.
Be unbothered by the things that don’t matter and remember, don’t sweat the small stuff…cause it’s all small stuff!
“But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.”
Acts 20:24 NKJV
