Little girl…GET UP!

He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” ).

Mark 5:41 NIV
Rise, shine, and be great woman of God! My sister I say to you, “Get up” and be who God has called you to be. Get up and give God His glory! Get up and beckon the people to Jesus. Get up, though you have fallen. Get up, even if you have fallen repeatedly. Get up and show your sister that she can get up too. Get up and share your testimony, someone is getting saved because of you. Little girl, get up and rebuke the enemy. Get up and resist him cause then he’s gotta flee! Get up and speak to the elements. Get up and speak the Word. Get up and preach the Gospel, no matter what the people say they heard. For light shall overcome darkness but you must be willing to get up! Get up because the day is new. Get up and thank God that He woke you. Get up, you’ve got a job to do. Get up and work cause Gods plan includes YOU. Get up little girl and be who they said you could never be. Get up and thank the Lord…for He is worthy and has set you free. Get up for you have been delivered, you are healed through His stripes and blood. Get up and do what sounds crazy, like Noah did before the flood. Get up and face your destiny, it’s getting closer each and everyday. Get up and trust your Father little girl, for He shall surely make a way. Get up and let God use you Queen, you are His image through and through. Get up little girl, have faith in God, He sent His Son to die for you. Little girl, be ENCOURAGED, your Father loves, protects,  guides, and provides. Even when you are down and ashamed, He seeks you out, no need to hide. Little girl, dry your eyes, your suffering is over, the past is no more. Little girl, no more regrets, God has opened for you, a brand new door. The Lord forgives, so I say little girl get up and rise again. Your Father wants you to know that in Jesus, you will always have a friend.

What are you living for?

But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.

Acts of the Apostles 20:24 NLT

For years I have been told that I was a writer. I don’t think about what I am writing, I just do it. In high school and thereafter, I wrote essays, poems, and discussion questions for friends and even strangers sometimes for cash. I didn’t want to be paid but I surely didn’t refuse it (LOL!). I simply wanted to write. Writing has always been something that just came natural to me, like breathing. I think I enjoy writing as much as I enjoy talking and reading…and that’s a lot!

Writing for me is a way to speak publicly without having to actually speak in front of people. I have battled with the fear of public speaking for years and have developed several tricks to overcome “Glossophobia” or fear of public speaking. I smile a lot (more than usual) to hide my nervousness. I don’t make eye contact with people, I actually look up a lot instead. I talk very fast, move around a lot, and volunteer often just to get it over with. The tricks I use to hide my fear have in turn worked in my favor. Instead of appearing nervous, I look like someone who enjoys speaking in front of people.

So what happens when you get a super shy yet outgoing social butterfly in love with writing, talking and helping people?

You get a woman anointed and ordained by God to proclaim His Gospel.

For years I ran from my calling. Feeling unworthy, shy, not good enough, not brave enough. I proclaimed to God that He had chosen wrong! “Not me Lord. I had 2 kids out of wedlock from 2 different men before I was 21.” Or, “Not me God. I look average. Ain’t nobody tryna see me. I’m not even that pretty!” And even, “Naw God. Can’t do it. I can’t never finish what I start.”

See one thing about God is, He is great at being God. He don’t need no help, no recommendations, no coaching, or no input. He is the same from everlasting to everlasting! Many times in my life, God has straightened me about my place as “child”, in our relationship. I’m grateful for that! See God will choose the foolish things for wise. He will use anybody He wants to to get the job done. Take Moses for example. When God commanded Moses to go before Pharoah, Moses said to God “Pardon Your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to Your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”(Exodus 4:10).  Nice excuse right? Kinda like me saying “God I can’t write, encourage, or speak. I’m shy, I don’t think I look as nice as other girls, and I talk fast.” But God being God says to me as He said to Moses and as He says to any of you inspired to do His will…

“…Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord?” Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” Exodus 4:11-12 (NIV)

Why do you do what you do? Are you living for self? To get all you can get out of life? Are you striving daily to reach your goals? Maybe you want to travel the world or try different deserts or be with as many men or women as possible. It’s all gotta mean something though. Your purpose is usually bigger than you. It’s meant to make a difference for you as well as those you encounter. My writing, encouraging, and speaking is not for me…it blesses me but it’s more about helping others.

What are you living for?

Hear it, Speak it!

What are you allowing to penetrate your eargate? What words are you speaking that you will one day be held accountable for? There are hundreds of different sounds that can influence our day to day routines. We hear rap music, pop music, gospel music, animals, televisions, washing machines, car horns, screaming, cursing, crying, and more. We don’t even realize how much we are affected by these sounds until we read a scripture that says:

“Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God”

– Romans 10:17

Are you hearing and speaking the Word…or are you letting it fall to the ground? While we are busy listening to the opinions of the women on The Real Housewives of Atlanta and Love & Hip Hop, let’s open our eargates to some life changing sounds…God’s awesome Word! You’ve heard (and hopefully believe!) that the power of life and death is in the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). This means you have the power to speak great things, wonderful things, amazing things! You can speak a dream to life because God is listening. You can speak and declare victory. You can open your mouth, praise God in faith, and in doing so, move a mountain. Your tongue can also speak destruction, death, and doom. We have GOT to be more careful about what we are saying and what we are listening to. When you speak good things, God’s angels take flight. When you speak bad things, Satan’s demons rejoice in evil. The things you listen to can alter your opinions, morale, and decisions. Ultimately, what you listen to and speak can change your life.

“But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil full of deadly poison.”-James 3:8

Our tongues have the power to tear down, belittle, demean, and crush our brothers and sisters. When we speak without thinking, “tell it like it is”, and say how we really feel, we aren’t always considering our neighbor. Our tongues should be used to encourage one another. We must exhort and edify one another in love. If we take responsibility for our tongues and allow them to come under subjection to the Lord, we can therefore help our brethren protect their eargates! In watching what we say, we are sowing good. By cautiously guarding our ears, we also guard our hearts and minds. Remember the saying “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me”? Well…words do hurt! Gossip, slandering, and lying hurt. False accusations, blackmail, and cursing hurt. They hurt both the speaker and the victim. The next time you get ready to listen to the latest “tea” about your sister in Christ, think again. The next time you find yourself about to roast a brother in Christ, don’t do it! Guard your ears, your tongue, and in doing so, you’ll be guarding the reputation of Jesus Christ.
